No paint, no pencil, no pen. Just material, my machine and me!
In our one-day, beginner level class, Mary Jane will guide you to create your own version of a bumble bee through thread-painting by machine. All techniques you will learn in this class can be applied to other forms of machine thread-painting.
Previous experience: It would be helpful if you already know how to use fusibles and have done some machine thread-painting previously but this is not essential.
You will need
- Fabric Scraps: some suitable fabric scraps in white/cream/beige/yellows. Also a scrap of light coloured leaf fabric or hexagon fabric in similar colours (optional).
- Single side fusible stabiliser
- Water soluble fabric that can be drawn on
- Waterproof marking pen - pigma micron 0.03 or 0.05
- A sewing machine that can drop the feed-dogs, and a machine foot for free-motion sewing
Notes on this class
- This is a theory and technique class.
- The theory part of the class will very briefly discuss copyright, and some basic design principles.
- You may not complete this piece in one day but I will supply notes on the process and techniques so you can finish it later.
- The bumblebee will be based on a drawing I provide.
- The finished piece will be about 9” x 11”. When finished it can be matted (as shown above, with a hole for an 8” x 10” image) and framed, or framed without a matboard. If no matboard is used, the frame needs to take an 8” x 10” image.
- If you wish, you can bring a suitable frame +- mat. You may or may not have time to frame it in class.
