Visible Mending and Collage Class

Know a ‘little’ who adores cats or monkeys?  Or a ‘big’ who can’t get enough of owls or butterflies?   Custom mend or embellish an item of clothing for your special someone or yourself - join Riana and Jennifer both for a fun day full of interesting techniques!

Applique, reverse applique, hand embroidery, machine and hand stitching, and mini weaving are some of the ways to embellish a garment that will be explored. Appropriate garments might be a skirt, a pair of jeans, or a jacket.

Materials List

  • 1 item of clothing that needs a little ‘lift’ - washed and dried, to avoid surprises after meeting with water and detergent post embellishment
  • ½ m or more of a fusible web, at least enough to be used on the backs of the motifs you are planning to use
  • 1 piece of focus fabric - choose something around which to base the rest of your design.  This can be a large motif, or a themed background
  • 2+ other fabrics that either blend with the theme or the colour palette of the focus fabric
  • Threads to coordinate with your fabrics - machine and hand
  • Hand sewing and tapestry needles and a thimble if you use one
  • Old embroidered linens, handkerchiefs, crocheted doilies, remnants from projects past, lace or beaded trim - let your imagination go wild!

Our Teacher

Jennifer Haack has been fascinated with yarn and fabric since she can remember. She has taught knitting, crocheting and quilting to anyone who would sit still in Dubai, Dusseldorf and Guelph, where she hails from and now resides. Always looking for the next creative fix, she is an accomplished teacher, designer and general fabric artist.

Jennifer is visiting us this year during July and will be teaching a variety of classes.
