Tegna by Caitlin Hunter has a flattering, swingy shape, with a pretty, slightly flared lace panel at the bottom edge. This pattern shines as a summer garment, knitted with cool cotton, linen, silk or any combination.

Tegna is knitted seamlessly from the bottom up in the round, starting with the slightly flared lace hem, then working up to the armholes, where you separate your work and work the front and back flat. Sleeves are picked up and worked last.

Knit in fingering weight (4ply) yarn, this design works equally well in wool, as it does with a cotton, linen and/or silk yarn (or blend). Instructions are given to customize the body and sleeve lengths to your preference.

Yarn
Although we may not stock the specific brand of yarn for this pattern, we have a large selection of beautiful choices that may be substituted. For more choices of yarn for this pattern, click here.

Gauge
22 sts and 28 rows = 10cm in stockinette stitch on larger needles, after washing and blocking.

NOTE about GAUGE: In testing this pattern, it was found that the needle size required to meet gauge varied quite widely depending on yarn used and knitter’s personal style. The range used by testers was US 3 [3.25mm] through US 7 [4.5mm] for the main body, so knitting a gauge swatch is absolutely critical to determine needle size and ensure proper fit of the garment.

Sizes
This sweater is designed to be slightly oversized, with approximately 5-10” of positive ease around the bust. The sleeves are fitted, so make sure you pay attention to the sleeve circumference when choosing your size. (Schematic is provided in the pattern).

  • Stitch markers, stitch holders, an extra needle for 3-needle bind off, yarn or tapestry needle - Click here

NOTE about NEEDLES: The body of the sweater will require an 80cm cable, and the neckband and sleeves will need a 40cm cable and/or a set of DPNs in the required size. Or use the 80cm cable for the 'Magic Loop' method.

When substituting yarn, compare the tension gauge of the pattern and the yarn. Working a tension square to determine the suitability of the yarn as a substitute is recommended - to compare the tension for sizing but also to test whether it creates the fabric you are after.

To determine the quantity needed, compare the total meterage needed in the pattern to the meterage on the substitute.
