Gauge
22 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm [4 ins] over stst on 4 mm [6 US] needles.

Finished size
Hat: 48 cm [19.25 ins] - fits 2-10 years

Mittens: 1-2(3-4; 5-7; 8-10) years

  MC – Natural: 1 x 50g ball

  C1 –  Charcoal: 1 x 50g ball

• Mittens

  MC – Natural 1 x 50g ball

  C1 –  Charcoal 1 x 50g ball

• One pair each size 3.25mm [3 US] and 4mm [6 US] knitting needles.

When substituting yarn, compare the tension gauge of the pattern and the yarn. Working a tension square to determine the suitability of the yarn as a substitute is recommended - to compare the tension for sizing but also to test whether it creates the fabric you are after.
